Planning Timeline by Grade Level

While every student's timeline is unique, the following structure provides general guidance for when to focus on specific planning activities throughout high school.

9th Grade: Building Foundation

Focus on adjusting to high school expectations, building strong study habits, exploring interests through activities, and understanding Graduation Requirements and Endorsements / Program of Study options.

10th Grade: Exploring Pathways

Continue strong academic performance, begin researching postsecondary options, consider taking the PSAT for practice, and explore career interests through job shadowing or informational interviews.

11th Grade: Preparing to Apply

Take standardized tests, narrow college or program lists, visit campuses, build relationships with teachers for recommendations, and begin researching Scholarships and financial aid.

12th Grade: Applying and Deciding
